Buying Q5 second hand - any advice?
Good Day All
This is my first post and would like to great you all from Sunny South Africa!
I need some advice for buying a Q5. Due to a process of elimination, my wife and I have narrowed our next car to buy to the Q5. Due to our budget we can only go second hand, so basically any model from 2009/2010. From searching at various dealers, this essentially means we can get a well specced one, but with anything from 80K - 130K km's (50K - 80K miles). We would also most likely go for the TDi automatic.
Could anyone give me a reason why buying an Audi with more that 100K km's is not wise, as I am really in love with the Q5 and would love to buy one. Also any and all advise/tips/opinions would be welcome, as I would love to drive this car for atleast the next 5 years.
Cheers

buying an audi with over 100000km is not a bad thing. We have two A6 Avant's (99, 01) they were both bought with 200000km on the clock. Mine required a bit more maintenance than hers, but other than that they were both very well treated.
Maintenance is the key with a through inspection. Do they come with a warranty, or can you buy one?
Again bottom line, does the vehicle show a good history of maintenance? If so I wouldn't be too worried

Thanks twopedalwarrior, that helps me.
Generally all the dealers I have looked at have the FSH, so I am assuming that good maintenance has always been done. I think I will narrow down the ones I am interested in and go for a test drive or three! Furthermore for those that do not have the balance of a warranty plan available, one can be purchased.
Thanks so far, I will definitely await some more advice and also keep you posted!

Do your homework. The 2009-2012 Audis have had oil consumption problems with Audi sometimes rebuilding or replacing engine beyond warranty. And a class action suit pending despite that.
You buy one secondhand with that mileage, and you have no warranty. An engine could set you back an extra ten grand.
So, as long as you know the risks, eh? Check the engine carefully, or look for something that doesn't have these problems.

Judging by Consumers Reports and other things I have been reading in this forum, I would stay away. The 09-12 A4 have nothing but major engine problems. You own a high mileage Audi with very fe problems, consider yourself blessed. I like the new 17 A4 and Q5 but I'm staying away from Audi. I purchase my cars, not lease the. You want yo lease one? I all in favor of it. Don't buy!
