Default Nationwide Q5 fuel pump shortage??

2014 Q5 2.0 with 55,000 miles.

My car died on a road trip outside of Barstow California. It was 111 degrees outside. Car moving along fine and then just dying, then waking up again and able to accelerate again. Basically a lunging effect. This happened a few times outside of Vegas (headed to LA). Then started happening more and more until the vehicle was officially stopped on side of road.

It it was towed to Audi Onterio CA and they have had it for 6 days now. They just called today and said it was a fuel pump and would come st 790$ to fix. BUT, it will not be in for another 7-10 business days.

I called my my local dealer in Denver and they said there was 20 cars at their facility waiting for the same part.

Q5 drivers... is this a known problem with a fuel pump or a fuel pump problem in extreme heat? Why is there a shortage of this part and people across the country in loaner cars? Is there a recall that needs to happen?

I've seen this issue with the 2.0t before... it was on an allroad. Had to order the updated parts for fuel pump and related items to fix the system (kind of like a vapor lock issue) ... did take 7-10 days
