Poor MPG for my 2011 3.2
I have been getting around 14 MPG city driving in my new Q5. It only has 1500 miles on it and we're really worried as to why we are getting such poor gas mileage. Is this normal? I am not driving it hard and really feathering the throttle when I drive it. Not in sport mode, and just full auto.
That sounds extremely low, even for the 3.2 !
Are we talking HEAVY stop and go traffic or is your definition of driving it easy WAY different from mine ?
I would certainly get it checked out.... as I've heard of some older models having injector leakage but doubt that's your issue because it would have to be FLOODING to knock mpg that low.... good luck !

has it always done such poor mileage since you got it? if its just more recently, it could be the winter gas blend...i've read a few posts on here regarding poor mileage recently and that seems to be the verdict. it takes some time (a few tanks of gas, i believe) for the ecu to figure out how to efficiently burn the new blend.
my a4 has been getting pretty crappy mileage the last fill up or two and the difference in gas is my only explanation (i have new plugs and filters all around, so nothing dragging it down there)

Yep, it's been like that ever since I got the car. I'm at 5300 miles now and the car does seem peppier. We have it due for it's first maintenance visit so we'll see how that goes next week. I live in Hawaii so we don't have winter blend fuel since it's summer all year round haha.
Thanks for all of the replies. I will let you folks know how it goes at the first sched. maint.

I don't have many miles, but I also have the 3.2. Got it last Monday! So far I am averaging 19mpg in the city and 25 on the highway. My city driving consists of lots of traffic lights, etc. The highway mpg was running 75 to 80 mph.
Did you ever solve this problem? I recently picked up a used 2010 3.2 w/ 13,000 and have notice the same issue. I am getting about 13-15 mpg on the highway. I can actually watch my fuel gauge go down while commuting the whopping 25 miles to work each day.
Nope, the problem still persists. I don't think it's really a problem but just how poor the car is with gas miliage haha. I still only get about 225 miles per full tank of 92 octane. I've tried shell, chevron and 76. I'm thinking it's because I had a car with a lot more power prior, so I'm always stomping on the gas pedal to feel what I consider normal? That's my only explanation. Comparatively, maybe on average, someone who had a car with less power may think it's more powerful and feathers the pedal much softer, netting what seems to be more power and better gas mileage? I'm at 8500 miles now, had the regular maintenance checkups and all is well.
We just took my wife's 2.0 Q5 on a 500 mile trip and I was doing 70-75 the whole way and we only got 21.5 MPG, that is a lot less than we expected. Especially since the same engine in the A5 gets 32 on the highway at the same speeds.
We have a 2013 Q5 3.0T with just over 1000 miles on it. So far it's gone through 4 tanks of gas (91 Premium), and it averages 16MPG per tank.
The car is mostly (75% time) driven in the city: lots of stop signs, some hills, and short trips (under 5 miles). In the city, the trip computer barely breaks 14MPG, and 12MPG is not unusual. The only reason we're seeing 16MPG overall is because of a few longer highway trips, where the we've seen higher trip numbers, between 25MPG and 30MPG.
The climate here (Northern California) is mild, so I doubt ambient temperatures matters for efficiency. I drive very gently (my other car is a Prius), so lead foot is not a concern (well, OK, I did push the car a couple of times to get the rush and make sure the engine is still there, but that's it!).
I can't help but feel disappointed in the 16MPG average. The EPA numbers are 18 city, 26 highway, 21 overall. As far as I can tell, there is no way this car could get anywhere close to 18MPG in the city. And getting 21MPG overall seems like a stretch as well, unless there is substantial highway driving. Looking at http://www.fuelly.com/ seems to confirm this as well, for this model year, the long term overall average is closer to 19MPG.
