Default Q7 3.0 TDI Prestige First winter

This will be my first winter in the north east of the US, we get tons of snow and ice. I understand Audi doesn't put remote starts because they are not legal in Germany.
However I'm curious what people do in the cold?

My example was this morning I had a very thin coating of Ice over the windshield. I decided to wait to see how long it would take to melt...Took about 10 mins. Of course the car complains to NOT IDLE TO LET IT WARM UP. But i can't see so i have to. If I scrape it with an ice scraper, I can't get it all because the ice is so thing and as I drive it just refreezes and I cant see again. I can't imagine Audi didn't think of this when selling a luxury car? in the days of $20,000 cars having remote start, i can't imagine they didn't think of something to compensate. I know the AUX heater is there, but even that still takes a bit to warm up. Definatley works better if you drive, but as I said its so cold that If i breath it freezes on the windshield.

Do I really have to go outside and start my $80,000 (new msrp) vehicle while my friends $20,000 escape has remote start and logic to either warm or cool the cabin?

Short answer yes you should not let a TDI idle, mess up the EGR valve.
