Has anyone installed an aftermarket hitch for their 2010 or older Q7? I was going to purchase one but wanted to know if its as easy as they make it sound. I am not going to install wire harness just hitch since I will not be towing the hitch is just for hooking up bike rack.

 

If you're only using the hitch for a bike rack and never plan on using trailer wiring...an aftermarket hitch is probably the best way to go(provided it's installed competently). One of the reasons the OE trailer hitch is so expensive is because it includes all of the components required to integrate with the OE lighting system.

 

Ok thanks that's what I was hoping for. I think I can install myself but it looks like I have to take the original bumper bar off and the hitch replaces it. Hopefully this will be as easy as they make it sound.

 

I installed a Curt Hitch. $160 from Amazon and about 1.5 hours to install.

Yes I have the parking sensor. I am also installing the wiring......we'll see how that goes

 

this was 3 years ago. any update on how that wiring went?
