Like I said, theres a tiny bit of side to side play in the inner joint of the axle shaft. Theres no push-pull play I can tell, but I didn't remove the CV from the hub. I'm not sure if that would hide any free play or not. which of these that you refer to is axial play and which is radial play?

check the bolts on the inner C/V joint on the Axelthey could be loose jaguar are famous for it, side to side movement mostly means the bearings are bad on the inner C/V joint

This is less an axle problem, and more a differential (or associated parts) problem. Like I said, theres a small amount of radial play in the axle due to a worn CV, but its minimal, and couldn't possibly make that amount of noise. I can grab the flange where the axle bolts to the diff/gearbox, turn it, and whatever 'slips' is inside the gearbox/diff.

Under normal circumstances, I'd have alternate transportation to work, and I'd be able to tear into the car, and do some exploratory surgery, if you will. BUT, I just quit my job, and I'll be taking a traveling job, so I have no time to waste. I think this time, I'm gonna have to surrender, and take the car to a garage. With 5 previous cars to my name before this TT, this is the first time I've given in to a garage, w/ exception of alignments/wheel balancing. : (
