I'm looking at possibly purchasing an '01 TT 225hp convertible with 143,000 miles on it. I'm fine with the maintenance work and upkeep of a higher mileage car, but the thing that makes me nervous is that I don't want to buy the car and then find out that the rings or valve guides are shot and the thing drinks or leaks engine oil by the quart. Is it easy/wise to do a compression test on them before purchasing it? The P.O. says it consumes about 1/2 quart per 3,000 mile oil change interval. Any other suggestions for me as I consider buying a higher mileage TT?
