Question 02 Roadster - ESP and ABS Error Lights

Twice, my ESP and ABS Lights came on (at the same time) and stayed on until I stopped, turned off the vehicle and restarted. At that point, the lights stayed off for the remainder of the drive.

I took it to the dealership and although I'm told a historical record of codes is saved in the car computer, the lights being on did not generate any codes.

So, I asked these questions (with answers in quotes):

1. Is the vehicle safe to drive? "Yes and your ABS brakes work as long as the lights are off. When on, I have brakes but not anti-lock brakes."

2. What do I do now? "Try to catch when the light comes on. Did it occur around a sharp turn as that may cause the sensor to kick off. If possible, bring it in when the lights are on."

3. Is this indicative a failing instrument cluster? "Potentially."

I don't feel these are solid answers to the error lights problem.

Anybody have experience with this? Is this vehicle unsafe to drive?

Thanks for your help!

The car finally coded and the ABS module needs replaced. They did; however, reset it and considering it was not staying on, we are hoping it will stay off.

The replacement part is around $800 USED!

What is the MAF that you are referring to?

Thanks for your response!

The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor measures the amount of air flowing into the engine. I had the same lights + the check engine pop on & off randomly. Gimped it along by cleaning MAF but finally replaced it and lights went away permanently. The MAF can cause a variety of issues that don't seem air flow related but you usually get a code. I would get p1138 sometimes but not others (?) Good luck!
