Unhappy '04 TT 89k miles Timing belt and destroyed motor

Car just died. No noise, no issues. Came to a stop light and it just died. Had it towed to the dealership. A day later, I get the call ... Timing belt went and now requires $6667 in repairs ($3800 parts and tax, remainder labor @ 20 hours).

Sound right?

What are my options?

Can this repair be done cheaper as a DIY or a repair shop? Are there places familiar with Audi's that are reputable? Better to get remanned motor?

Live in Michigan ...

Thanks,
Cynthia

PS ~ She is my little Blue Bomber and I cannot let her go yet.

probably best to find a new used engine... with a new timing belt and tensioner... there is a reason people replace them between 65-75K miles.

Thanks.

I wish I knew that BEFORE it went. I was told at 100k.

Now, to determine if she is worth fixing and having $13k into at this point.

It was mentioned in another thread I saw recently that it's sometimes possible to just swap out the head, as usually it's just the valves that get destroyed.
