2001 225HP Engine Blown - Where to find replacement?
#12
FYI, from what I can tell the AMU head is the same as every other small port 1.8t head. The difference between the AMU and the lower HP 1.8t's include different compression ratio (9.0:1 vs 9.5:1 IIRC) and a few forged bits, and of course a k04 vs k03.
My 225 actually came with an AMB head. I didn't even notice until after I bought the car, but it doesn't seem to have any issues.
My dream setup would be AMU block w/ AEB head and a BT setup. Lower end should handle it fine (may need new forged rods though), and the big port should flow enough to get decent spool out of a GT28rs or similar.

Help
Hi there. Sorry about your issues. Happened to see your post while looking for tuning info for my '01 TT. I just replaced my head with a AEB head so I have a perfectly good used head. It has 104,000 miles on it. I put 94,000 of those miles on it and my service guys said everything looked fine. I'd let it go for $200 & include shipping, if not too outrageous.
The AEB head was for some performance upgrades, AMU was running fine.
