Default 2002 TT Will not Start After Driving

6 speed manual 1.8L TT2002.

I drive for a little while (say 40kms) and then stop for a little while (say 5-10 mins), then it does not start.

I have electrics ON and a good well charged battery and a full tank of fuel.

The only method I can start it is by cranking a fair bit with the key and pumping the accelerator pedal.

It cranks over just fine but will not fire up.

Please tell me why this is happening and how I can rectify this problem.

I'm having a similar issue on '02 TT 1.8 6MT roadster, car died while driving. Cranks no fire. After 20-30 minutes restarted. died again five minutes later (fortunately on our lane), OBD service tool wouldn't connect, 20-30 minutes later, service tool connected, P0322 code had logged, started on next crank attempt. Have not had a chance to troubleshoot further.

mine is doing it as well. 03 model 1.8 auto trans. Also, once it starts doing that, if i press the pedal all they to the floor while driving when i get to high rpms it will lose power, cut out n choke like its starving for fuel or flooding.

I replaced the crank timing sensor and it has been running fine since. Not sure why the service tool wouldn't connect- any correlation between the timing sensor and datalink.

Default Hmmm

Why would the crank timing sensor work fine when the engine's cold the work intermittenly when hot? It seems like a coolant temp or engine speed or mass air flow sensor thing to me. But, if i knew it all i wouldnt be here looking for answers, would i? Congrats.

Default Found mine

I put a coolant temp sensor on mine ($13) and its been fine since. Drove 60+ miles afterward and no issues. I have a camry that did that too. Ran fine when cold then would shut off at stoplights n stuff after the motor got hot.
