2008 Audi TT performance opinions

I own a 2.0T 08 TT which cost about $37000 all said and done with a premium upgrade. The looks are awesome and the handleing is way better than the older models and lighter too. The dual clutch is great and really helps it beat other cars that have to manual shift. With a chip for $600 I am putting down around 220 whp and 270 or more tq and would think a 0 -60 time of 5.4. For only a 2 or 3 K more than the older models were new and all the upgrades they added it is worth the money. The DSG, mechanical steering, aluminum frame, 2.0T engine with a higher compression make for an awesome drive. I had an 02 1.8T TT (bought new) and loved it but this one beats it by far. I have run with some 300 hp cars and have won or stayed even with them. I can also get 27 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. So power when you want it and MPG when you want it. And like Cincy said you can MOD the hell out of it. And the TTS coming out will have even more HP. So coming froma guy that has had both take it for what its worth.
And if I were to add an exhaust, FMIC, bigger intercooler and intake piping, and all the other little mods that can be done on the 1.8T and 2.0T and add a LSD the car would be real fast. Add a K04 and it would kill. So a few K in mods on a 1.8 and the same mods on the 2.0 I feel the 2.0 comes out ahead even if you get FWD.

I would love to see comparisons of the two cars with the mods you listed in a test enviroment. I have all the mods you listed out (of course stock K04) and Ihave beata guy that has the 2.0 that lives somewherenear me. We have played around a few times in a freindly manner on the metered freeway on-ramps. Nothing too crazy a quick ramp up to about 70 before backing off and I won both times but thats not saying much.
Dont get me wrongI am not hatingbutit's alittle too pricey in my opinion for what it is but to each his own. Glad you are loving your car IT IS A VERY NICE CAR! My TT is now garaged and will be just a weekend warrior and true project car...big turbo upgrade coming....soon......I hope.....I ran out of bolt ons....seems all I got left besides BT and a brake upgrade is water meth, suspension isalready done.

For 37000 I would rather have a Lotus Elise that would run circles around the TT. You can pick them up in the Seattle area for that price range. I have never tracked or timed my car but I believe my $16K 225 w/chip alone could possibly do a5.4 0-6 as well. With a good driver, I have read road tests showing 5.8 with the 225 coupe the roadsters ticking off at 6.2, per Motortrend. From reviews I have read the newer TT's handle better and are built with better technology but I don't feel it is worth the price.

You edited your post but yes they can come with airbags and do not have to be stripped down to the bare bones. The engine is out of the Toyota Celica so that should be nice and reliable. I see these things commuting on the freeway all the time. As for Audi's reliablity that has something to be desired from my personal experience. I have been left stranded at least 4 times in this vehicle and I have only owned it since the end of Jan 07. I have put about 15K miles on it and I have had things like the front axle breaking going down the freeway not once but twice!! I know this isn't the norm but my car only has 60K miles on it and shouldn't be having these types of troubles. Look at all the trouble these things have...just glance over page one of the forums. I love my TT but after it going down again on me last week I bought a brand new 08 Civic Si coupe fully loaded for a commuter Sunday....thats why the TT is now garaged and will just be used for recreation and as a project car.
Hopefully the reliability/small issues have been resolved with this new generation. Practice makes perfect.........err, I hope.

Erick? SF Erick? I too am in love with the 08 TTs, they are so sexy! The interiors are nice with the suede/leather combo, the steering wheel design change, the extra vent in the middle, the navigation, and the exterior lines are gorgeous! I personally would stick with the 2.0 rather than a V6, I'm a boost lover, but I havn't been in a 3.2 TT, so I can't fairly judge. The S5, is a sweet ride, but I don't think it is fair to compare it to a TT because they are not even similar! The dealers here in the Metro are running the 08 TTs $10k under sticker, so your looking $32k +/- on model. I dunno what they have for limited build for 08, but if I do get a new one, I am going to look for a limited build. But for all the driving I have done since I moved here to the metro, I have seen only 1 MKII TT, and prolly a dozen MKIs since begining of December. We shall see what Spring has in store!

i disagree with most here. I love the 3.2 vr6 tt. Im sorry but there is no way anyone can ever tell me that any vag 4 cylinder is better thanany vr6 especially the 3.2 liter 24v variant. hands down that is the best engine in our arsenal. The 2.0t or 1.8t are fun and i love them but when you want big power you make your power band more and more skinny, too much sacrifice. vr6's always have great power, no matter what gear, what conditions etc. yes you can buy a chip on a four cylinder and go fast, but it will never feel or SOUND like a vr. Also vr's are much more reliable. I have rebuilt alot of 1.8t heads from bent valves, none on vr6.
and if you want to talk about modification. Truth be told, after everyonei know work there 4 cylinders and make the power they want, they always regret it and say i should have gott a vr6. That even goes to guys in quattro cars. I seriously had this conversation today with a customer that has a sweet b6 A4 1.8t BT.
i have vr6 cars ive built that only maybe a couple of 4 cylinders can run with, but also the vr6's are street cars, the 4 cylinders claim to be street cars but you should know better than that.
to the op, go out and testdrive it. It will be alot of fun. you can beat that car to death and it loves it.You will always have alot of power and it never dies away. Push it to redline and all that fun stuff, you will not bedissapointed. And if you have no problem swallowing that price tag, a turbo kit in the future is easily attainable if you ever feel bored with it. Mods on the 3.2 are fun. Personally i would get a exhaust first. I just cant get enough of the vr6 drone sound. Intakes sck hard too. Chips add a decent amount. there is alot you can do, just like any other engine. Tuning the VR will cost a little more, but will without a doubt be better.

Skip, haha, fancy seeing you here. So many decisions....so many. I've been telling myself over and over I will never again own a daily driver in Minnesota that isn't AWD after owning my current TT Quattro. Fuel economy may suffer slightly, but the roads I drive on (and especially the hills here in Duluth) I feel much more confident with the AWD setup. Even the other week, cruising back to Duluth in impossible conditions, whiteout, blowing snow, black ice, my little TT was weaving a bobbing around slow traffic and I passed at least a dozen ditched vehicles, of which one was upside down, another pulling a trailer which was on it's side...and even a semi, in the ditch, ready to slide into a ravine. If I were further south it wouldn't be such a consideration to make but around here I feel it's a must. I've pretty much convinced myself that I need AWD. Now that winter is coming to an end, I couldn't care so much for the AWD but I know if I don't get it I'll regrett it come next fall again.
Rayveedub, thanks for the re-assurance on the 3.2. Do you think this engine will be dumped from the TT lineup anytime soon? I really just want a reliable daily driver with good power, and the potential to possibly upgrade in the future depending on how long I hold on to the car. On the note of the AWD and the 3.2V6, what do you get as far as average fuel mileage is concerned? I've heard mixed reports and I've done some comparisons with the numbers listed on www.fueleconomy.gov for my current TT, and both the 2008 2.0T and 3.2V6. I drive roughly 14,000 to 15,000 miles per year and the spread is only about $600 between the 2.0 and the 3.2...I set the pricing at $4 per gallon for fuel. Between my current 1.8T (the numbers listed on the website) and the 3.2, it is considerably closer, within $150 per year. I average about 28 MPG overall (city + hwy) in my current TT which is much better than the government website states. This leads me to believe the 3.2 is actually better than stated as well. While I don't generally care about fuel consumption, I still want to get a good average. Any real world figures on the 3.2?
Skip, where are you located down there? I might come test some vehicles this week. I've been having a hard time finding any used 2008 3.2's...almost to the point I'm considering ordering brand new so I can get what I want without he hastle of looking in 4 million places. Do they usually start showing up in April? The used vehicles, that is.
Keep the info coming guys...really appreciate it.

no problem glad i could help. Also i wouldnt worry about the 3.2 being dumped. if it is, i think it would be for a new variant in the tt like the 3.6 vr6 currently in the passat. honestly you should hope it is dumped cause the value of your car would skyrocket, just like the 24v vr6 gti's and jettas
. Remember the vr6 design has outlived any watercooled VAG engine. The have been in this country since 92. The vr6 is and always have been the most premium engine in the lineup and i dont see what engine it could ever be replaced with. Also i want to add that you could never talk me into buying the tts over it unless they decided to make it with a vr6, its the same scam vag pulled with the gli and gti. they had the awesome 24v vr6 and then they pulled it and put the 1.8t with a body kit and sport seats [sm=badidea.gif].Honestly i would take a vr6 with 50 less hp, the instant torque is what fits my driving style. plus the sound.
as far as gas mileage goes, i have no idea. but i would assume it would be the same in real world driving. you need to push the 4 cyl harder to make power. unfortunatly i still have my 1.8t in the car at this time. but the 3.2 is sitting on the pallet ready to go soon.I have a great running modded 225 1.8t and i am ditching it for about 20 less peak hp do upgrade to a vr6.

I did some pretty heavy mods on my 1.8, turbo upgrade and all and never regretted it. It made good power and still got good MPG, which kepet it a daily driver. Yea there are cars out there that will beat the TT like the Lotus but it sucks as a daily driver and has no creature comforts. My 1.8T with a performance exhaust had a nice low growl too it but will never sound like a V6 (which will never sound like a V8). The V6 is a nice engine but on the TT it likes to suck the gas in and doesnt get as much power as I think it should with it sucking that much gas. But if youre not going to mod the car then a V6 might be the answer but will cost a few more pennies. I love the 2.0 cuz I can feel the turbo kick in and man can I jump out of a lane and go when I want. I test drove a V6 and it just didnt feel as fun but either way the TT is a great car for power and some pretty nice luxary and has great style. A nother thought is the S5 that just came out it looks pretty nice for a larger coupe, not sure of its power tho or its price.
Also some are comparing the price of a used TT to the new 2.0T TT which is kinda out there as of course alot of people are getting used TTs now since they are more affordable. You will always be able to get a used car and get the performance that you can on a new car but it wont be new. One of the reasons I traded in was cuz I was seeing alot more older style TTs out there and wanted a fresh look again. As far as Mods go I would beleive that an equally modded 1.8 and 2.0 would tell the tale and would be in the favor of the 2.0.

Sounds like the tt works perfectfor you then...
If you're looking for an Automatic (DSGdoesn't count toward cool-points)Convertible that's Luxury and AWD, go for it. Paint it pink while you're at it.
But With cars like the Evo and Sti in a cheaper price range, and cutting it close on the basecorvette, I don't see any reason this car shouldn't have a lot more power for the money.

Can you please give my some examples of why it is not worth the money? What other AWD cars would you reccomend that are in a similar category and price range?

New TT = Not worth the Money.
Look into your other options.
If you're in that price range there are alot of other cars that are morecar for the $
