225-45-17 stock, would it hurt to put 215-45-17 for winter?

Default 225-45-17 stock, would it hurt to put 215-45-17 for winter?

Im looking to get tires for this winter and possibly next winter. I live in Upstate NY so winter is usually from mid Dec to mid March, sometimes we get snow later but this is average. I have stock wheels with 225-45-17 on right now. I figure if I can put 215's on it will help in the snow, plus the cost is much less.

TIA

I was kind of wondering about this too. With stock tires should i buy all seasons for winter? I live in central ohio and winter can get bad where i live because i live out in the country.

It's eh, ok, you'll be stretching the tire tho. I did it today to a customers tires. He brought me 195's & 205's were on it. I warned him about them, he said do it therefore I'm not held responsible.
