im new to tt's and turbo cars but i was just wondering what is a regular rpm reading when you are in sixth gear at about 70...i am at 3000 rpms at 70 and about 3500 at 80. I didnt know if it should be that high in a 6 speed. I know its a completley different car but my friends bmw 3 series 5 speed auto rides at about 2500 at 70. i was just curious. kinda wanna save gas considering the prices and that i drive everywhere fast now.

 

That's normal. These cars rev high at highway speed...not sure if it's an efficiency thing or just a convenience so that you don't have to downshift to pass anything and everything [8D]

You'll still get good gas mileage though. Not sure what you quattro fellas get but I've been getting mid 30's lately. Haven't beaten my best of 42 yet.

im guessing your friends bimmer is a 6-cyl car though right?? that probably explains the low RPMs.

 

I have found that the engine gets its best mpg between 2700-3000rpm. No doubt that's why they put 6th gear in the average cruising range for the American public (~70mph).

 

You're comparing your car to an auto as well. Auto transmission is a totally different animal, and will probably always cruise at a lower rev than a standard transmission.

 

I had my 225 for about a month, and I always look for 7th on the highway... [:@]
