Default Aftermarket Headunit

Has anyone changed out the head unit on their TT? If so, how hard is it and how long did it take? I have the installation kit, just wondered if I should even attempt it by myself.

ok,if anyone has installed an aftermarket unit please help me out!

i installed the unit, but the only way it will work is by connecting it to the 12 volts constant with the memory, which means it doesnt turn off when the car is turned off! the acc lead didnt do nothing and the dimmer did nothing when it was connected. the harness i bought, which was from metra and cost 30 frikkin dollars was basically wired wrong. i know this because i was following the diagram on the stock unit!!!!

what do you guys think i can do to get this wired correctly, i have already spent so much money on the harness and crap i dont want to pay to get it installed properly!

You need a metra 1787 harness to connect to the bose concert stock system. You will also need a ground loop isolator for the rca'sif you're using the stock amp. Wiring is super easy and is nothing like you described. Sounds like you got the wiring all wrong or got the wrong harness.

okay sorry to thread jack but i went to install my headunit today and couldn't the key on the left side of the stock head unit to grab. I tried wiggling it turning it upside down backwards and every other way i could turn it. Is there any other way to get the stock bose headunit out with out having to drop the whole lower dash?

Nope, that that I know of. I know I did have trouble with mine the first time I tried to remove it, same problem. Eventually felt it out and got the removal tool to catch.

Hmm, in that case the stock nonbose unit uses hot outputs instead of the preamps like the bose does. I believe that in order for you to use them you need the correct harness. I don't know which one it isthough with the non-bose system. I think the harness is the same but the wiring is slightly different...
