its funny because mine came on as well... mine happened when the car was in extreme cold for a week (-30, i live in mn) i have a vag but havent had the time to hook it up. Lookin online a few people have had the sensor to the seat come disconnected. Maybe check that first. I will post when i vag my car.

Mine is on as well. I've seen this a lot lately, and all mention cold weather which makes me wonder. I would assume virtually all of us with this problem turned on our seat heaters when it was cold, so could this have something to do with the way those are wired? Do they share something in common through that harness under the seat? I'd look it up on my Bentley, but it doesn't play well with Vista on my laptop.

Well, when mine did this the dealer replaced the air bag control module. It had nothing to do with the seats. It was something around $950.

I'm asking if it could be related to a shared electrical relay or anything else between the seat heater and the airbag since it only seems to go off when it's cold, a time when most people turn on their seat heaters. Like I said, virtually every thread I've read said the same thing, that it happened when it got cold.

It is VAG after all... the people who brought you the TT cluster issue as well as the 100k mile plus 1.8t timing belt... Need I say more? I'm really shocked the dealer in your case found the issue to be a $950 part, really shocked. Was it covered under warranty? The last person I trust to diagnose a problem with my TT is a dealership.

mine came on the first cold day after I bought the car. i didn't use my heated seats. the airbag light just came on when i started my car and never went off. also earlier in the week my dumbass friend pulled on the wires because he thought they were for adjusting the seat. it would be nice if we just didn't have to take the dealers word for it when it comes to the airbag.
if the wires were pulled and i was able to reconnect them would i still need the dealer to reset the airbag light? if so how is this different from when they had the class action against them for being the only ones who could make our keys?

Mine was covered by my aftermarket warranty... no way in hell I would pay $950 to fix an airbag.

My air bag light would come on when it's cold and as the car warmed up with go off. It did this for 2 years, untill one day it was always on. I would assume it is a resistance issue. Resistance decreases with tempature. Now that I think about it though, the seat was moved right when the airbag light sayed on all the time.

I would NOT go about pulling airbag wires. You need a special tool to remove the seats that prevents the seat air bags from going off!!!
