I changed mine after about 2 months of ownership. - The car itself come to find out had the timing belt replaced. HOWEVER - my waterpump's impellar was found to be broke. - I changed mine LITERALLY in the nick of time.


I used the ECS tuning kit - Worth every penny.

Not to mention if you go to a small town you'll get cheap labor.

 

Last time I looked at the ECS kit it didn't come with the throw away motor mount stretch bolts, or pulleys, and it cost more. *shrugs*

 

Why is it the used car dealership's fault that you couldn't afford to replace the belt? How is it their fault at all?

 

I blame the dealership, and Audi.

These timing belts/water pumps are pathetic in design.

He is right though, if this was a plane.... AUDI wouldn't be in business anymore.

 

um i blame the dealership because they sold me a car that needed maintinence when i bought it without disclosing that information to me, if it was a new car i could use the lemon law against them, same concept. i mean, would you buy a car that would need a new engine four months after you bought it? i think no. i dont blame them so much as i dont feel responsible for it. i am gonna try everything i can to get around paying for a new engine. The sad part is, whenever i finnaly fix the TT i am gonna trade it in for something else.Not another Audi, prolly a Bimmer or Corvette. Sad but true. Mabye i'll get a camry or Honda even. i just need a dependible car( from my findings Audi's are not dependible,they are stylish and fast ,but not dependible.) if you dissagree look around this forum ..all these complaints about everything, from timing belts to gauge clusters. They are **** when it comes to dependibility. so very soon i will be leaving this great family of this forum and Audi.

Hell Ferrari's and Lambos brake down even more. - They cost 10x as much new.


My car has had its share of issues. - Continues to. - Its apart of driving this car.


I know Audi isn't a BMW or Mercedes (I've owned both) - I can assure you they are in a lower class. - However Audi is 3rd in line and above the american standard for cars. - It proforms, it grabs attention and above all things is a more costly car. - Seriously for a 2 seater with little to no practicality $40,000 is expensive, VERY expensive for a car like this. - It is designed to be a play thing, a side car, a car for the wife to look cute in while she works out. - It was never designed for guys like us to pound on it day in and day out. - It just so happens to be one of the sexiest cars i've ever laid eyes on. - It also happens to be extremely fast with a couple mods.


-Lesson. - Dont buy cars out of your price range, and you wont have issues with repaire bills.

As you said, buy a car like a honda or toyota. - Most people CANT afford these cars. - New or USED. [X(]

 

Audi says you're not supposed to change the timing belt until 105K!!!!!!!!!!!! No dealer is going to proactively do this before selling. Dealer is def not at fault.. ONLY YOU.

I traded a honda in before my TT and it had 75k miles on it and needed about 3k worth of work. all cars cost money to maintain.

 

Well, I just ordered my stuff and a few extra stuff to enhance her functioning. Planning to knock it out next weekend; wish me luck!

 

My water pump was 1/2 gone, if it woulda jammed up it woulda snappped that belt. I did the Dieselgeek kit, glad I did. 8 Hours in the garage and I get piece of mind.
