Is the APR R1 supposed to honk?

Is the APR R1 supposed to honk?
I opened up my airbox by essentially cutting out the end away from the engine. Now it gets unrestricted airflow to the stock filter. However, you can hear everything on the intake more clearly. Not as bad as a cone filter, but close.
The problem is now at part throttle, I hear a hum or honk that sounds like diaphram vibration. I swapped in my Forge 007P and the noise goes away.
I really liked the R1, but don't like the noise. I opened it up and the diaphram looks intact (the thing is brand new), so is this just the characteristic of a diaphram type DV?

Well, I replaced the spring with the green spring out of my Forge kit. The green is the weakest Forge spring, but it is still stiffer than the spring that comes with the R1. No more honking and back to smoothness!
