Audi 225 TT or A6 2.7T
Yea I know they are almost opposites. I am looking at all Audi's... I have decided that my next car will be an Audi because they are good for the price with all the features and engineering that goes into them, etc etc.
I would chip / remap whatever car I would get. A chipped 2.7T gets above 300HP (guessing this is crank), what can a chipped 225 TT get to? I don't want to do a ton of performance mods. My car has them on it now and it is just too loud for me (exhaust drone). I figured a chipped Audi is all I need. My guess is a TT would be more 'fun' to drive, BUT there is no backseat, little trunk, etc etc. I kinda want the power from the 2.7T, but I don't know about the handling of the A6.
So to summarize:
Does the A6 handle well enough for the power of the 2.7T?
Anyone have a weight comparison between the A6 and TT?
Anyone have MPG data on a stock 225 TT and A6 2.7T?
What approx HP can the internals / tranny of the 225 TT handle, and what is the 'weak link'?
My guess is the general comment will be - TT is small & quick and gets better gas mileage than the 2.7T, and it weighs a lot less than the A6. The A6 gives ample space for friends with lots of power, but doesn't provide the 'wow' factor when wizzing around the roads. The only thing I don't like is the TT is a 1.8, and I was hoping for a little more displacement.
I am just looking for direction when picking out my next car. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Right now I drive a Protege 2.0T @ 10psi and probably 230-240 at the front wheels, maybe 250-260 at the crank. The motor is weak in it, the 3" exhaust is loud, and I hit fuel cut in the cold weather because I max out the MAF.
Thanks in advance.

225 TT is about 3300lbs I think, combined (city/highway) fuel milage of 23mpg, and your weak link is your clutch/suspension/tires. Its a sturdy motor and tranny, I doubt you'll be doing anything that could over do it. With the quattro on my 180, I can slip the clutch if i try to take off too quick, so expect to upgrade that, and if you're going to be moving fast, do something with your suspension and brakes, for safety if anything.
OH, BTW, the TT owns the A6 in the hottness catagory, and that alone is reason enough to get one.

Thanks for the stats. Now I need to find out how much the A6 weighs. I would like the TT if it weren't so cute... that is the only thing holding me back. Looks like something my wife would drive in the summer with a daisy on the dash. Not hating on the TT owners, but that is just the way I see it. If I ever got a TT, there would be a body kit on it right away to make it look more aggresive.
What do people boost TT's to (with stock internals)?

Not sure what people are boosting the car to with stock internals. There are comments made, however that a turbo upgrade with an upgraded fuel system will get you over 300 HP. That is with the 225, I think its around 265 with the 180. From what I understand those numbers are with out anything being done internally. I just replaced my cylinders and such for reasons I have over stated, before I ordered the factory cylinder head I did some research. As far as the internals go, there is not a lot you can do. Audi does not make anything above what is already installed on the 225 nor does anyone else that I could find. I talked to my local performance shop about a port and polish while the car was ripped apart, and they said with that car the HP gain is not worth the cash out of pocket. So as achTTung put it, the engine is really beefy and ready for just about anything you can throw at it. Especially if you just want to chip it. You've got nothing to worry about then.
Thanks for the input. Yes I have also heard that the engines are solid. Of course with more boost you need to provide more fuel, etc. This brings up another question.... the A6 2.7T... does it have the same EXACT engine as the S4? i.e. are the injectors, fuel system, intake mani, etc the same. My guess is they are, just more conservativly tuned. Of course the A6 would be slower due to weight.... but a chipped A6 2.7T just has to be fast. A nice sleeper maybe. Especially if debagged and the person did not know much about Audi. I saw that LLTEK has a nice front end for the A6 (Europe maybe) .
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
