I went to an indepedant show and they just called me saying that they are "done" and it will cost $777 (something like that) for the job they did on the alternator.

WTF? Isn't that a lot? They said that the alternator itself is $450.

I have a 2002 Audi TT. I had no idea it would be this expensive for an alternator and that seems very expensive to me. I googled an alternator for the TT and I found some for $150, wtf?

 

Thats what i paid for a used alternator and it took me all of 1.5hours to install it taking my time

I did the labor so i only paid $150 for the low mile alt. You pretty much dont have any options since you didnt ask for the cost before hand it seems. You can talk to them and complain, but not sure how far that will get you.
