Default audi TT - Good first car?

hi i cannot drive yet but would anyone disagree with a TT as a first car? I've been looking around for a car and found the TT to be pretty cheap. also if anyone is selling a TT for a reasonable price thatd be awesome. Thanks.

Welcome to Audi Forums tpurplelabel!

Since you're new... check out the START HERE! (click this link) link to get a rundown of the lingo/vocab here at audiforums.

Then be sure to search the archives when you have a question. Chances are the question has been asked before (probably several times) and the archives will have plenty of information to answer your question. If you still need answers, please feel free to ask questions.

Don't feel intimidated; we are all a bunch of pretty cool guys (and gals). Feel free to post advice, comments, ideas, suggestions, and even pics.
================================================== ==========================================

For a first car, I would suggest something less valuable and less performance oriented. There's a reason most people start out with cheap regular cars - and it's not so much about the money. It's more about the learning curve. It will take a few years of driving before you will really know how to drive. I know that may sound ridiculous to you right now, but it's true. Just like anything, you are "practicing" your skill at driving every day you get behind the wheel. Every hour of experience behind the wheel brings you closer to being a great driver with good instincts, good reflexes, and (most of all) good judgement. In the beginning, your reflexes may be very good, but your instincts and judgement will not be well tuned. You just won't have the experience to draw upon when you need to make a split second decision. With experience, you get better at this. Of course there are plenty of people who haven't gotten much better over time - accident reports confirm this statistic!

Regardless, the TT is a great car to drive, but I'd hate to see you waste your early driving years on something that might be more than you need or could handle.

Sorry if I sounded like a parent. Do what you feel is best for you. These were just my thoughts and opinions.

thanks a lot for your opinion... that makes a lot of sense. now that i think of it a TT would not be that great of a learning car. THANKS again.

I agree with ImolaS4 that the TT perhaps would not be the best choice for a First Car.
Don't get me wrong, the TT is one of the best handeling cars and a very fun car to drive,
however it is possible to be too confident in a slick, fast and nimble car like the TT and
perhaps misjudge ones own capabilities especially if one doesn't even know what those
might be.
I had a very beautiful Trans Am at one time that I sold to a friend of a friend that just got
his license. I was reluctant at first but my friend assured me that his friend was a reponsible
person and a very good driver that wouldn't get in trouble with the car. Well one week later
I heard that he had totalled the car. It just shows that no matter how confident or responsible
a person might think he or she is, a car that is fast and has a reputation for being fast may be
to much of a temptation. If you have the power you are more than likely going to use it.

And as far as a TT being an inexpensive first car.... I don't know where you live or what your Budget
allows but a TT is a fairly expensive car compared to a Chevy Cavalier, Ford Focus or a Pontiac Gran Am.
My first car I bought myself while working at a local grocery story. It cost me $200.00 and it was a
piece of junk but it was mine and I was proud of it. A year later I got myself a better car but in the
meantime I was glad to have had the old car to learn on and to get more confident on the road.

It took me over 20 years until I was able to afford a car like the TT. I understand that there are others
out there that have the financial means of purchasing even more expensive cars at the age of 16 but
where is the joy of actually working for something that you yourself have earned.

Good Luck with whatever you may decide. Be careful and use common sense and remember no one
is imortal.

haha yea, my first car was a Buick Lesabre

I am 18 years old and im selling the buick in a month and buying a TT

But ive test driven the TT many times, and im telling you it defintly helps to learn to drive on a regular kind of car, then move on to a car that has more power, because you wont know how to handle it at first.
So i was in your shoes once too...hang in there, its worth it in the long run!
