Default Audi TT transmisson?

Have an 01 audi TT quattro 5sp. Yesterday I was sitting at a light, it turned green, and the car wouldn't go. Didn't move an inch. Thought the ebrake may be stuck but it rolls in neutral. Tried every gear. Won't move. Also stalls in neutral if you let the clutch out. When I put it in any gear and rev it a little the rpms drop when I let out the clutch but it doesn't even TRY to move. Having it looked at but I was wondering if anyone could shed some light as to what it could be. Blown transmisson? Just the clutch? I don't know. :-(

First thing you need to do is have it scanned for codes. With the revs dropping like that and the car stalling out, something vacuum or sensor related is causing an issue. There should be some type of code stored in there that will give you an indication of where to look. Post up any codes that you get and we can start helping you diagnose what went wrong.

It just went into the shop. But I'll post what's wrong so if anyone has any similar problems.

Default Transmission issue

I have a 2003 Audi TT Quatro 6sp with 60K miles. LOVE my car and it's always been serviced properly. Two days ago my 1st and 2nd gears and reverse decided not to work. I had to drive it to a nearby shop in 3rd gear. After leaving it with the mechanic for an eval, he told me the entire transmission and clutch need to be replaced. I was HORRIFIED !! Waiting for an estimate here in Canby, Oregon.

Thats a classic sign of your clutch that just failed. More than likely they will tell you, that you need a new clutch. Guess we will find out now that it's in the shop Im waiting for mine to do the same...at 139k right now on original clutch. How many miles you have on it?

Sadly, only 64K Was told some of these models the German engineers did a 2nd rate design in transmission. Other car forums say its a common failure. My mechanic is getting mine rebuilt to newer specs. There goes my tax refund. Estimating slightly under 3900.00 for everything.

i have a 2006 tt that i love and have taken care of BUT in December with only 69,000 miles i had to have a whole new transmission. i was shocked that a german car would have that happen. i have had 3 MCB and a Porsche that had 80,000 when i traded it for the tt and none of them had to have anything like this. originally it was going to be 6,200 until i bitched to audi america . they just settled a lawsuit in September about transmissions on 2006 audi a3's and VW where they extended the warranty to 100,000 mls. final bill was still $4727 and only a 12,000 ml warranty. even though i like the tt not sure i can trust it or audi engineering anymore

Ya I stopped by my local audi dealership and talked to their service guy. He said at first it sound like the clutch but the more I explained it it sounded like the tranny. I'm so sad. $2300 for a used one installed. I'll probably fix it though because I love my car and it still has lots of life left.

You cant base buying an AUDI on one year that had tranny problems. Thats just ignorant. All cars have issues, known or not, and you will never find a car that doesnt. Audi's have great engineering, parts arent that expensive if you know where to look, and they last. You take care of them and they typically take care of you. 2002 - 2005 nissan exterra's had issues with electrical, tranny, and or engine's. Now on the other hand there are just some cars that are crap. One TT owner may never have issues with their TT, and another TT owner could have so many issues. Just saying to keep an open mind and that all cars have issues.
