Basic question regarding engine & transmission mount
Glanced through the FAQ, tried to do my best to Google my way into wisdom but have not been able to find an answer. I apologize for such a silly question--am a complete novice.
2004 TT, 1.8L. Whining noises when turning left/right sharply, suspected front axels need replacement for a while now--got the unit diagnosed, was advised to indeed have both axels replaced & recommended engine/transmission mount replacements as well. Got the recommendation independently verified, & it seems to make sense.
Now for my actual questions:
#1. Driver & passenger's axels make perfect sense, but are there SEPARATE driver & passenger's side engine/transmission mounts?
#2. What kind of real life risk is there to putting off the repair for a few months, if I drive much like an old granny?
#3. Do Audi parts carry a particular price premium? I'm scrambling to buy third-party OEM parts partly because the dealer quoted me $600 per axel, when both are available online for around $80.

The passenger side is the engine mount, the drivers side is the transmission mount. There is also a 3rd called the dogbone that is just above the oil pan.
You can pick up an entire axel for under $200 online.
go to www.mjmautohaus.com, www.ecstuning.com, and www.034motorsports.com

the nomenclature is confounding, since both of the mounts are called "right" in the part shops i've checked out. what i've had scoped out so far:
TRANSMISSION MOUNT:

ENGINE MOUNT:

I'm guessing you're advising to also have the 'dogbone' mount changed as well, since the other two are.. Thoughts?
Not sure why both say right, but they are the correct mounts
You just need to replace the bushings on the inside of the dogbone mount. They are $20 from ecs and take about 30mins to do. No need to buy a whole mount.

thank you again very much for the reply--ordered the parts today. the entire repair was originally quoted for about $2500, parts & labor, & with a bit of looking around, a reference from my friends & your help, it looks like the bottom line will be around $800 or so...
