anyone can recommend a brake upgrade kit for a 2000 tt 180 1.8 quatro thats under a 1K. i read u can use the 996boxster(rotors and calipers) or the Cayenne
is this true?

 

You can use the calipers, but different rotors and special carriers. In the end, it still cost as much as another BBK. I have a set of Wilwoods which run about $900. Plain face 2 piece rotors with 4 piston calipers. Far lighter than stock, no brake fade, and stop far better. Replacement pads are pretty cheap at $60 with race pads available also. Only place i know that sells the plain face is hotrodusa.com. Same kit as for the VW's

 

Is that 900 for all four wheels?

thanks i did see that big break kit fo $750. its just the front, everything i read said if you change the rears you need to change the master cylinders. i was reading on a gti forum that the wilwool is not much better is that true? i am sure if i search the junk yards i can find some 996 calipers but what would i need for that conversion?

The clamping force is increased, the cooling is almost instant, and they are far lighter than stock in every way. They helped improve stopping, weight, and acceleration. Just because they arent as big doesnt mean they dont perform. Ill take these with 2 piece rotors over slightly larger one piece rotors any day and save myself $300+.

The rears and everything else doesnt need touched. I just have stock rotors and decent pads back there. I have had mine on the car for about 4 years now and I dont think you need more for a street car and i push my car rather hard everyday.

do i need to change rotors or just use the same. because i have seen some kits with caliper and rotors only.

 

The kit comes with everything but the lines. You do need to pick them up and i know jegs and other places sell them.

If you do go this route and want to sell me your stock carriers for cheap, let me know. I just picked up an A4 and it needs better braking also.
