Default boost issue..........spark plugs?

post on the vortex too:

ok guys I tried to search but I must not be punching in the proper wording.
A few weeks back I took my car in to Mobile One in Glenview, IL to get the Haldex serviced. While I was there I decided to have Jay change my oil and plugs. I told him to use BKR7Es or whatever they are and he said no a car with just the chip can run blah blah blah... I dont remember what he said but since he has a ton of experience I just said ok.

Well I get my car back and its running pretty good. The box he gave me my old plugs back in say "laser platinum" which I think is a no-no for any turbo car so I assumed he just used a junk box...

A few days ago I notice something wierd, especially in 3rd and up gears. It will boost to 21-ish, then drop to 16/17, then right back up to 19 and hold. it makes for an annoying, power-losing experience and I need answers!! Im going to pull my plugs tomorrow and replace em with the 7's and see if that does anything..

Any other ideas? It has never done this before!

Just pull the plugs and check the gap. Even if they are 6's and gapped correct, they will be fine. Pull them and post the gap and plug used

but what do you have and the gap? If it is a stock heat range and its gapped to .028 you will be fine. It sounds like you have to order them from like ecstuning like the rest of us

scratch that.. I found a place right in town that has the 6's.. Im just going to go grab those before I tear into my plugs because I have a feeling they arent the same.

I'll post what they are.

In the meantime, since I am away from all my tools, can anyone give me a list of what sizes of sockets I will need to get in there (remove coilpacks etc..)?

Thanks!

If you have the bolt downs, you need a 5mm allen or just pull the others up. 5/8th socket for plugs, and a 10" extention.

I would bet you just need to pull what you have in and gap them down to .028 since im betting they are at the stock .032

ok so I pulled em and they were the oem PFR6Q's gapped to .028 hmm... so for the heck of it I threw in the 6's at .028 and fired her up... everything runs great with no hesitation.. I wonder if that solved it or if it will start to act up again in a week or so...

no clue..

Interesting, PFR6Qs come with A4's etc whereas TT's/MkIV VWs come with BKR6s.
