Check Engine...again
42,000 mile 2001 and it's like someone has flipped the switch on the check engine light. What's really strange is this is the best it's ever run. LOL
Last time it was in the dealer said that the hoses on top of the engine needed to be replaced. Anyone ever heard of that one before? I pulled the covers off and everything that I saw looked great, no cracking etc. They wanted around $400 to replace them....
Any ideas?

they were probably just wanting some $$$$$. When you get the check engine light write down the code and then do a google for that code and you will find all kinds of info about it, then you can start troubleshooting from there. And once you know the code look around the old posts here too. You should buy a ross-tech vag-com so you can read the codes and do some minor changes. Or go to advanced auto and have them read the codes for you for free. But the vag-com will save you time and money in the long run. I think its about $200 or so, look up Ross-Tech Vag-Com and go to their site.
Some hoses you cant see may be just cracked... even the smallest thing could set it off... However, the dealer was probably trying to bs you into a couple extra bucks... happened to me though with the hose and as apposed to a 250$ bill i bought a foot of the vacuum hose (hosetechniques.com) and fixed it for about 3 bucks
