Hey everyone,
I have a 2000 TT Quattro.
I've been lurking around for a while looking at info on chips, and it appears that either GIAC or APR are the way to go, but my question is, should I even bother? My car has 132k miles on it. I did a 120 mile commute every day for two years, and put an insane amount of miles on the poor thing.
What are your thoughts?

If I were you I would go with APR, because I think the APR isnt as aggressive or as demanding on the car, but still gives great, reliable performance. The only thing I would be worried about is your clutch. If its old, get a new one.. if you need to save up to get a new one, just get the chip and see how long it hangs in there. Either way, go for it. Just my opinion. All the service up to date?

 

If you're going to keep it....sure. It'll be almost like getting a new car.

I guess the real question I'm asking is if it will put too much stress on a probably somewhat tired engine. I have no idea how many miles a typical 1.8T will do before it needs to be retired.
I'm excited... There's an APR dealer up the street - it's basically like a 15-30 minute flash then I'm done, right?

the 1.8T is a tank of an engine. Unless you see obvious wear now, like burning oil, or leaking a ton, don't worry about it. I'm at 140,000 now, and I'm just now building my car into a track car. Chip will probably be this fall (chip is low on my priority list), almost certain to have 150,000 on it by then.

 

My car is just a baby at 34,000 miles!

 

Yeah man, just take good care of it. Regular mait. and you'll love it and itll love you back. The flash doesnt take long at all. You will freak when you take your car out for the first time afterwards. I'll never forget when I had mine chipped and I started out in first, 2k rpm, floored it and it broke loose... I nearly creamed my jeans

 

Nex is yours 225 or 180?

 

Do it! I have APR93+, 113k on an '01 180q and lovin it.

 

I did mine at 125000, Revo chip. Made a world of difference. Best money spent for upgrade.
