Default Clutch slip or TIP collapse?

Is there a way to find out if what i'm experiencing is my clutch slipping or my TIP collapsing withough actually taking apart my trans? When I step on it, right around 3-4k the rpms just shoot up and my car goes nowhere. Also I believe that my slave cylinder is almost shot, could that be the problem? I'm not too sure how the whole clutch works to well. Or am I just going to have to get the clutch checked out. I sure hope its the TIP! THanks in advance

I still don't see how anything aside from the clutch could allow the rpm's to build w/out the speed.

Edit: Sounds exactly like the toasted stock clutch in my turbo miata.

Its more likely the dual mass flywheel. It is made to slip to prevent damage to the clutch itself. But once it starts to go out you will only have about two weeks of normal driving untill its shot and you wont go anywhere.

Best thing is to change your clutch before it goes completly. Find a shop you would like to work with and go get it changed. Oh if you want to upgrade to a better clutch now is the time.

get the clutch replaced.

ecs had a nice stage 1 with lightened flywheel.. no chatter, good grip, great drivability.

Is the stage 1 going to be able to hold enough power?
Also should I get the lightened aluminum or steel flywheel?
With the ecs stage 1 being around $350, how much in labor at a decent shop, am I looking at?

Depends most places I found wouldnt work on it just because mine was quattro. The one that did, said that they will never do it again hahaha. Good luck, call around and find out who is willing to work on it. Remember to look at their reputation also, if they want dirt cheep prob not a good idea, no sense in having to go back because the installation went wrong. Have fun!

How about a ballpark figure for a decent shop to do the install?
