Default Cooling Down Period?

After reading a couple of threads, I guess the TT has an automatic cooling cycle after you shut the engine off? Mine is a 2001, does it have this or no? I haven't noticed anything that sounds like a pump after shutting off the engine, so if i do have it on my car its probably not working up to par

You should hear a very low humming soud after you shut off the car. One way for sure if it is working. Go get you battery checked when you shut off the car they can let you know if the battery is still being used. Most likely if no lights are on it is you cooling system that is drawing power..

I think only the 225 has the after-run pump, but I may be wrong.

Thats why i thought it might not be working, I cant hear anything after i shut my engine off. I can hear the coolant runing through the line somethimes after i shut the engine off but thats about it. Does anyone know where the pump is located? Maybe i can crawl under there and feel if that sucker is pumping anything through the lines.

One other thing. I noticed a kind of a knocking sound coming from my engine yesterday. I dont here it when im driving, just when my car is stopped and its not constant, almost random like it will knock once and then a couple of seconds later it will knock again, and never at the same intervals. It sounds like its coming from near the front of my engine, any suggestions?

The turbo is water cooled. This makes it pointless to let the car cool down. So dont worry to much about it. As for the odd sounds, its normal from the few 1.8ts i have seen.

As far as i know, knocking sounds are needed to be checked. It means some damage in the engine. Check the oil whether its clean. It may be due to some problem with connecting rods or tie rods.

tht random knocking sound ur hearing is probably jst the intake pipes contracting while its cooling down, mine does it, the air moving thru ur intake is hot, thanks to ur turbo, and in turn causes pipes to expand, and when it cools down it contracts again, i.e. tht knocking sound, u should only be concerned if it happens while the car is running or is excessively loud, or if the car starts acting up, but if ur 225 is running fine thn dont worry about it.
hope this helps
