I am not the authority by any means, but I think unless you have a big turbo set up 3" all the way through might decrease performance by decreasing, too much, the backpressure on the turbo. 3' dp even to stock 2.17 is at least better than stock, and 3" to 2.5/2.75 depending on yoursetup is probally all you need.

Thats what I have come to believe too. I have the new TT and its about 2.5 all the way thru for its exhuast so I am looking to do a 3 in DP with highflow cat to stock catback. But the muffler is very big on the stock so I want to know if I can replace it with a smaller one and get better sound?

The 2.5" vs 3" on the stock turbo has been a big debate, but you dont lose much if anything going full 3" on a stock turbo.
