Exclamation Is dealer required by law to give the 4 digit immobilizer pin code?

I live in Indiana. I refuse to pay the dealership $200 for a spare key when I have a locksmith that will do it for $50. Wow, the beauty of a free enterprise system.

Problem: I have a really good feeling that if I stroll into the dealership and ask for the immo pincode that they will tell me they cannot get it. Which is a lie. The code can be extracted via the obd-2 port. This code is needed by the locksmith to program/create new keys.

Question: How can I MAKE the stealership provide me with this pin-code for my vehicle which cost tens of thousands of dollars that I OWN.

Is there a law that requires that the dealership release this information? If so, please post your source.

Thanks!

Law? Yeah right.

You could try to "social engineer" them into giving it to you. I got a radio code for my old honda that way. ..."I just got my car back from service from you guys and my radio says code..."

Also- my key (brand new) was $130 from the dealer after cutting, programming and everything.

Had one dealership want to charge me the minimum $90 diagnostic labor charge to look up a radio code for me. Went to a diff dealer and they did it for $30. Some people are just bastards.

I'd make a big scene if they try to charge you a ton. Maybe they'll just give it to you to get you off the lot.
