Default Difference between US & Euro Headlamp Switch

Does anyone know what the difference between the US & Euro headlamp switch is? I've heard that the Euro switch has a position for the rear foglamp. My A4 has the rear foglamp and that is a great feature. My headlamp switch is flaking out and I figured if I have to replace it this might be a nice mod. Anyone know?

A big fog light in the back of the car. It gets really foggy in europe and comes in handy. So i assume.

Maybe its so you can see vehicles and stuff behind you in your mirrors on foggy days?
ORRR... maybe it's a courtesy light for less fortunate drivers that drive behind you that have no fog lights (so THEY can see), to let them know that your car is not only better than theirs... but picking up their slack.

The rear foglamp is a bulb in the tail lamp assembly that glows a brighter red than the rest of the tail lamp. On european cars it is typically on the driver's side. My BMW 3 series had one and so did my E Class Mercedes. My A4 also has it. It's great if you are driving in fog. It allows cars behind you to see you.

That makes sense...also explains the audi's i see on teh road with a single bright lamp in the rear. I always thought the lights were broken....

i've appreciated a rear fog in my day. I was driving to Rocky Mount, NC from here in NY, thru a heavy downpour, there was a volvo, and a benz in front of me, they both (and myself) had our rear fogs on, and it was great for keeping a decent distance between the cars when you would otherwise be blind to the car infront of you.
