Default Diode mod w/ a switch... can we do that too?

I was recently looking at some VW with diode mods and this person posted a diy... so just curious on how they did it i read it and it sead that the person used a 4.7V and 4.3 V zenner diodes and 4.7 was for reading 17 psi (the ECU that is) and the 4.3 V was for reading the 11 psi. The mod bascially enables yo uto switch between three boost settings: stock mode, 11 psi and 17 psi... why is this needed? I mean i understand stock mode and 17 psi but why the middle and etc ... (ofcourse the psi is for the VW but just a question). Also I am currently upping the boost with my mbc to 16 psi ... do u think a 4.7 V diode is necessary for us 1.8T TTs (roadster) ?? The swithc thing does look cool though .. here is the link:

no chip and a 4.7v diode would send you into limp once you pass on bar. If you want two settings, get a dual stage mbc.
