The flex part on my downpipe has finally rotted, car has 165k, daily driver and
I live in the northeast, it doesn't owe me anything, I've had it since 2004

I could afford to send it to the garage but I'm showing my teens how to do this for
themselves, learn to save some money when you are young and poor.

So I need to replace my downpipe, it is already split at the flex.

One problem: Getting the post from the downpipe out of the rubber hanger, any suggestions?

Now to the replacement, here is what I have found
ECS - OE - $554.18
ECS - 42dd - $835 - Contains CAT
ECS - Billy Boat $1080 - Contains CAT
AudiUSAparts - OE - $502.20

EBAY - from $200 - $1,000

Questions:
42dd would have me replace the downpipe and cat correct? As the car has 165k might make sense
EBAY Parts, I understand buyer beware, can anyone suggest a reputable vendor.

MRJAGDAD - yes I own an 88 XJS as well.

 

I decided to go with the 42DD downpipe and cat replacement.
Spoke to Dave at 42DD all sounds good.
Getting the old downpipe out was no picnic as I do not have
a lift, just putting the car on jack stands.
Worst part was getting the downpipe hanger off.
Anyway we are ready for the new pipe.
