Uhh, on second thought, maybe I won't half-*** it. I'll change my oil to PREVENT damage from happening, and if I WERE to convert to E85, I think I'll change out my fuel lines/seals to PREVENT THAT damage from happening too.
Lame statement! Well you better de-mod your car back to stock too then cause you could damage something over time...people are running E85 with no issues. swoleguy dyno'd his k03 at 250hp and 329tq on e85...maybe you better stay away from the chip tunes too because over time something "could" happen.

Why half @ss something though ??? Would you run your car with 87, or use 10w30 instead of the reccomended oil, or use regular coolant ??? Personally I would use the right seals !!! As far as the de-mod, you can cause damage without a chip too !!!

it's not a matter of 'something COULD happen'. Alcohol eats the seals in your fuel system. End of story.

If swoleguy jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?

I really don't care who's doing what, or how much power they're making. While your buddy is making 250 whp, he's also destroying seals. Theres no arguing around it. Unless the fuel lines and o-rings were replaced, alcohol is eating it up.

seriously..
do a little research, form an educated opinion. just because some guy on the internet is doing something, it doesn't mean its right, or the smart thing to do.

I am not arguing that certain precautions need to be taken when doing mods but the statement you made IMO is pretty gey...I also don't think it's something I would do, but for someone on a budget it can be safely done for a few hundred dollars...if someone like Cincy were to do this mod to his 2.0 with upgraded rods it may be very benifical...he may see near 300+whp and high 300's in the tq range...much cheaper than anyother mod that will get you anywhere near 300whp. Again, it may not be "ideal" but neither are half the things we do to our cars.

which statement I made? That alcohol eats up the seals, or by not replacing the seals that can be damaged, you're doing it half-assed?

Maybe you do things halfassed with your car and think its fine, but everything done/planned for my car has been decided with tracking the car in mind, aka, as 'ideal' as I can get it.

pretty much all your statements, but in particular where you said "E85 is for sucks"...no one ever said they were gonna half *** anything, read this>>> http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3866545&page=1 very far from half assed. The guy is working directly with Unitronics, logging all different things, and making sure it's done right...people are making huge hp gains by running it.

LOL.
I like the part that said ..."The Risks!!!! Corrosion, Water Contamination, Air Fuel Problems, In sort, do it at your own risk, its your car bottom line, and there is no real support for this sort of thing."

i love how if anyone does something different and/or tests the limits of the car, people all bitch and cry that they are going to break something or they are stupid. There is absolutely no way to find out what the car can do until someone actually DOES IT!! So far there hasnt been any damage reported from anyone that has actually ran e85 in their car, and yes, there have been many that have done it on a regular bases with 25-100% e85. So far, no one has reported damage to anything but to the old dyno numbers. So until someone reports a problem, i wouldnt cry about people pushing limits.

BTW getto, I DO USE 10W30 in my car

Theres pushing limits, and theres reckless modding.
If chemically, theres an equation showing the breakdown of certain materials from alcohol, well, we call that scientific proof. Fight it all you want, I still say its a dumb move.

NOT that E85 is dumb, that going as far as 'custom' tuning, dyno time, logging crap, upgrading fuel pumps, bigger injectors, AND NOT bothering to go the other 10% and replace lines and seals.

BTW, this thread is stale. If you're thinking of arguing with me more, don't waste your time, I'm done with it. I spend too much time online reading about goofy stuff like this, when I should be outside doing something FOR REAL with my car.
