either way im pretty sure the timing belt has to come off to replace that sensor so you mine as well put a new one on im not quite sure on that tho id have to check my bentley i think theres two hex screws holding it in and you might be bale to get it off and new one on without removing the timing belt

what kind of symptoms did you have? rough idle? hesitation?

lookin atthat pic and the actual part...it only has the two bolt holes and are both located above the timing belt...so installation looks very easy

yea i had a rough idle for sure the rpm needle bonced between 800 and 1000. It sounded like a vette or a boat at idle that deep gargle sound

ok so this is what i get with vag com 1 Fault Found: 17748 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) / Engine Speed Sensor (G28): Incor. Correlation P1340 - 35-00 - -

also checked for misfires had them in three cyclinders....gonna get new coilpacks and see what happens.

anymore ideas?

Yeah I was reading up on this in my manual... Which says the shutter wheel for the CMP sensor may not be lined up properly.
That you can tell if it's mounted improper by the locking lug getting squished when the mounting bolt is tightened.
Sorry no pictures for this part...

However, it says to check this after checking the voltage of the sensor.

gonna order engine speed sensor,coilpacks(4) and maybe the camshaft position sensor if its not loose...so there goes 190 bucks...250 if i get the camshaft sensor

Why are you buying coilpacks? They are more than likely misfiring, because the camshaft sensor is acting up.
Dontcha think?

Also check out germanpartsonline.com . You may be able to get parts a little bit cheaper from them.

yes i thougt of that...but im pretty sure they are the original hitachi packs in there...100k miles on them idk might just get those two sensors and play it from there
