I have had my eye on an Audi TT for a while now, but while doing research on the cars I have read a lot of reviews about little to no reliability in the cars. I don't want to spend all my money on a car that is going to require more money for constant repairs (i wont have the money for it). I love the way the car looks. Heard of turbo lag, but that can be dealt with. Have any people on here had lots of reliability issues or know of anyone who has? Am I just finding the few cases that have been on the extremely bad side? Would love to hear everyones input on this. I have my eyes on an '02 TT.
First, there is no such thing as lag on a turbo the size of your fist. Second, dont become THIS guy.... https://www.audiforums.com/m_717402/tm.htm<=READ!!
My budget only allows me to get a used TT and ones I found in my prices range are at 70 - 80k miles.Thats after the suggest 60k when the TB should be changed. That worries me about the TT. I like the new styling a bit better. More coupe-ish, just too expensive for a poor college student.
I have had my TT since Jan 07. It's an 01 225 and I got it with about 47k miles on it (was a corporate lease vehicle) Beside from the $$$ I have spent on mods here is the money i spent on maintenance.....
Replaced front diver side axle...$550
Replaced/maint. (all at once, just last week @ 58k):
Timing belt
Access. Belt
Water Pump
Valve cover gasket
Cam seals
Chain guide (some half moon piece)
Haldex service
coolant flush
TB tensioners and some hydrolic cylinder for the tensioners
other small various crap and tune up and inspection
oil change
.....$1500.
Not to bad but not cheap either, just did the Tb in my wifes 03 mazda protege5 the week beforefor $600 but I had more done. Now that the car is fully inspected after having it for almost a year (by an authorizedVW/Audi shop, Redmond Werkshop great guys)and has had it'smajorservices taken care of and out of the way makes me feel better. It's a used car.... take care of it and get the maintenaince done and you will be fine! Every type of car out there has it's own set of problems but that does not mean every single one of them will experience it.
