Default Getting a head unit

I'm looking for the best head unit to get for a TT on a bang for buck ratio.

So far, I'm almost going to buy this one:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-C29QimH...x?I=500IDAX100

It has an option to glow red instead of blue, to match the interior of the HUD in the TT dashboard.

Does anyone have any other recommendations or feedback on this head unit? Will I notice a difference in sound w/ the current speakers I have? (I have the Bose Speakers on a 02' TT).

Thanks.

im not too sure about which is better but i can just say that ive always put Alpine in my cars, as well as friends i know always use their head units and they are great. They are not the cheapest but they def seem to have the best quality and last a long time, the buttons dont break, screen stays working.
I think it looks nice too

i have an eclipse deck. Its a cd4000 it lights up LED white and blood red. Matches the interior lighting 100%. Plus the change track dial and volume dial have little indents around them like the vents and shift ring. So its pretty much perfect.

For the price that you posted up top I would just go for a pioneer Looky here
It can change to red or amber as well. Ive had a similar one for awhile and its very good it has a nice built in equalizer so if you upgrade your speakers you get to tweak the sound quite a bit.

The stock speakers wont last long but will do until you upgrade the rest.

the 1 in the link is nice. I know alpine has 1 for a lttle more$, that is compatible with the stock cd changer. It is also blue tooth ready. I know, because I've also been looking. I'm actually building a clip/dock station to attach my iPhone II to the sliding mirror portion of the visor. Pretty funny, the I phone is a perfect match to the space that is currently there. All I have to do is run my wires to the inside of my visor and finish making the clip to hold it in place. Oh and when you use a better unit, you will for sure over exceed the limitations of your stock speakers. If you replace a pair at a time, you can get awesome speakers and not spend a ton of $. I did the same on my range rover, 12speakers! Took me almost a year to finish! More than worth it! Paper speaker cones are junk! The Bose sound as good as they do because of the enclosures they use. Just think how good they would sound with NICE speakers

oh another thing that is nice about eclipse. I dont know if you plan on doing any ipod integration but eclipse has the best layouts to navigate with the head unit... My brother has a JVC with his ipod and he hates it, mine is significantly easier to use.

the alpine controls are set up just like the iPod. Do the eclipse show a screen with the album cover? Not necessary but very cool

i guess its all what u like.. iv had a alpine head unit. and hated it.. eclipce has been really good for me... and i dunno about alpines. but you can lock up eclipce unit kinda like if you disconnect the battery in ur TT the cd player need to be unlocked... its like that..kinda nice i guess... and you use a cd (any cd you want ) to unlock it. .. but its all what you want to spend on a cd player. or nav..there all about the same anymore... if you do go for a dvd. nav... alpines are very nice.. id pry get one.. but of course eclipse is better !!!
