RE: hardwiring gps?
The top picture is my TOMTOM One. I didn't hardwire because it gets 2.5hrs on the battery and I only plug it in unless needed.
The bottom pciture is another TOMTOM One w/ the power cord hardwired through the vent, behind the radio, and into a 12v source.

very simple but use the cigy lighter connector provided with the unit ( dont wire it direct to a 12v supply)
on mine I soldered a wire to the ground and one to the live ( on the push in cigy connector ) then I looked for a switched live when the ignition is on only then connect the live to that fuse and the ground to any metal part of the chassis,
this ensures you use the cigarette ( cigy )socket plug in connector as the supply because its 5v not 12vor you could buy the hard wire kit and not cheap for what it is

question for ryan. Did you fabricate that aluminum mount between the vents or is there someone out there with it for purchase?

For my setup, I taped the car charger to a metal beam under my dash, then spliced one of the ignition switched group of wires from the fusebox so it turned on with the car and had a fuse on it. I used the big ground post near the steering column.
I routed the cable up through my top vent from behind my cluster. I pulled my cluster out and the little bose speaker on top of my dashand got the cable through the speaker hole...it was VERY difficult to get there. I put the speaker back, chopped up the vent grill a little so my USB plug could fit and voila:
