if it is the waterpump.... i guess when i get this next paycheck ill make a weekend out of it and change the timing belt/water pump. Never opened up a car before, but im sure I could do it in 2 days... it doesnt seem to be toooo bad. Ive done plenty of internal engine work on my motorcycles, so i think even with some difficulty i should be able to complete b4 the weekend is over, right?

It's time for your timing belt and accessories to be changed.
Water pump failure will not cause the timing belt to fail.
What causes the timing belt to fail is the belt tensioner.
The water pump has a plastic impeller which over time breaks apart.
So get a timing belt kit from ECS or Dieselgeek, both kits have water pumps with a metal impeller and include a thermostat.

Nathan should be able to tell you all you need to know about the A/C condenser.

A lot have said it's easier with 2 sets of hands, and a lift. A weekend SHOULD suffice.
There are write-ups all over these forums, think there's even one in the TT FAQ.

thx for the info, but how long should it take to do the installation? Im not paying the 1000 in labor that audi stealership quoted me.

and why would audi even put a plastic impeller in there anyways.

After i complete the new belt installation, how long is the new one expected to last? Hopefully more than 60k miles because im sure the 10+ hour work its going to take is not something im going to want to do all the time, lol.

This car is just too good looking to ever want to get rid of it, but the maitenance is a pain and costly!

sure ill lure one of my buddies over to give a helping hand, but when it comes to the work... im the one who touches my babies! I cringe if i ever have to take any vehicle into the dealership. I know my work is 110% quality. Luckily for me, i have never had to take a motorcycle into the shop yet because they arent as electrical as these cars are and all the work can be done fairly easily.

I appreciate the help you are giving to a site newbie, and i promise once i get my feet wet with this audi stuff i will contribute back and help others when possible.

It's recommended by enthusiast to preform this maintenance every 60K.
If you think about the $300 and 7 - 10 hours of work is worth it; compared to what could happen if the belt does fail...

Personally I wouldn't, simply because the TT has electrical gremlins to begin with.

i forgot what it was but i think someone had something wrong with the lightweight pulley on their TT... i think it may have been because of a light weight flywheel but im not sure...

someone give me a confidence boost and tell me that if i follow these DIY instructions found on the FAQ's for the timing belt install that it will go fairly well. I do not have an engine lift and i do not have a torque wrench :-/

when i finally get this car running at top shape, my first mod is going to def be the AWE boost gauge!!! Looks nasty!
