Help! weird noise from engine bay!
hello
I have this strange noise coming from the engine bay after i shut off the engine!
a couple of seconds after i shut off the engine i hear this resonating rythmic whining, it slows down and becomes deeper in tone
until it stops. It lasts about 3-4 seconds.
the only thing i can think of is that it might be the turbo that stops spinning then.
Could it be that friction in the turbine makes this noise? Not enough lubrication?
I'm having the car checked out on wednesday the 23rd, it has to go for its 10,000 mile check-up.
It is a 2002 225CQ.
Thanks a lot!

I heard the 225 has a system that circulates coolant to cool the turbo after the car is off.
It was mentioned in a thread a few weeks agoabout turbo timers being a waste of $$.

i'm tired of people saying turbo timers are a waste of money. The coolant after run pump just cycles coolant(which is around 200 degrees) into the lines. The turbo timer lets the car cool down(after heavy driving) and you dont have to sit inside the car and wait. just remove the key lock the door and go about your business. plus the apexi TT has a battery volt meter,O2 sensor voltage as well as a Air to Fuel ratio display.
I just did a little test the sound is not there if i shut the car down with a cold engine.
It looks like it will only do it when the engine is warm (needle in the middle)
anyone have ny idea?

Josh, its the coolent being circulated buddy. Stop sweating it. You car is fine....I PROMISE.
And for the record, coolent running through the turbo is not what will save the turbo after shut down. Its the hot oil that is parked in the turbo that makes deposits in it as it cools that F's it up. That is why people still buy TT's. It lets the oil cool and to continue to move after shut down, thus keeping the turbo from carbon build up. Its like having a sludge problem in your turbo.
