Default HELP: what temperature will the fan spin? Overheating~

The temperature needle moved to the hot side from the mid-point while i was idle and parking my TT. I saw it moved 2 blocks toward the red zone from the mid point and slowly going back to mid-point in approx. >1min.
I searched the forum and knew about the On-Board Diagnostic codes 51 Engine Coolant Temperature.
Tested at my office's parking lot, idle until the needle at the mid-point (but the needle didn't go over this time) the temp is @ 90c (outside temp is 75ºF), I rev the engine for coupe of time, still sat in the middle. Went out and check, both fan didn't turn on. I was wondering when will the fan turn on automatically(fan is on when AC is on).

FYI:
Timing belt kits(from ECS) replaced @95k miles
I believe the sensor isn't the green one.
Car current @97k.

thanks!
Gordon

fans should kick on when the car starts getting past the mid line and heads towards the next line.

back home from work. drive hard on the way home, parked on the street and the temperature gauge's needle went over the midpoint about one block. after 30-45 sec, back to normal. Checked the fan, didn't kick in. The temp kept in 90c (on highway was 70c something).
Will it be the fault cluster?

Someone else had this problem earlier this year and they said that it ended up being the fuses in the engine compartment that had blown, idk just some info that I remembered of the top of my head. Check it out.

ya, I saw the thread. Checked the fuse from the top of the battery, no broken fuse.
Is there a fan switch or something? will this thing fail?

The fans kick on at 104 C... Also monitor block 49 for the engine temps not 51.

My engine temp issues were the fuse. After fixing that and realizing the fans dont kick on until 104 I haven't had a problem. At 104 the temp needle will be on the tick mark just right of the center line.

Hope that helps.

checked with the #49.
It's about 90c on highway, 95-97 idles. When it reached over 95c, both fans kick in.
but the temp gauge needle dead sit at the middle, never go over to 3/4.
but if it's the fault cluster, will that affect the OND system? so those ºc maybe read wrong.

Found this thread from >> audi world
Just plug the fuses out and re-insert them. I will test it again these days. I hope this will help and I don't want to fix/replace the cluster!
