Default Hey clipse... if you're as low as I am, check your CV boots...

And an advanced warning for anyone else slamming their car.

I haven't tracked down exactly WHAT is causing it, but I just went thru a new inner CV boot in less than 2 weeks. If you read anything I posted right before H2O, you'll know I was in a rush to find a replacement axle/rebuild kit (there is no inner rebuild kit from Audi, BTW), as my inner boot on my drivers side was non-existant. Only the rubber clamped down was left. I scavanged a boot off an extra axle a friend had, and cleaned regreased my CV Thursday afternoon, the day before I left for H2O. I checked it tonight, 13 days after replacing it, and its torn completely around the joint on the inner side (the fat side).

Nothing I see could have snagged and torn the boot, at least with the car in the air and suspension hanging. Before I finish up tonight, I'm going to run the a-arm thru its full range of motion, and see what changes in hopes of finding SOMETHING I can blame this on. I'll also be raising the front back up, probably about an inch, or slightly less, which should take care of the rake, and frame my tire nicely within the wheel arch.

I have a feeling the joint is being pressed in more than the boot will allow, causing it to pinch on itself, and eventually fatigue and crack.

Outer joints can move in all directions, like your shoulder. Inner joints can really only slide in/out.

yeah, and i did mine, and 13 days later the boot was torn again. can't see any reason other than being lowered, the boot I put on while used, wasn't very old.

That would have been for the outer CV, its the inner joint I've had issues with. Grease starts on the back side of the headlight leveler, nothing on the wheels.

BTW, passenger side (long axle) seems to be holding up fine, its just that short one on the drivers side...

So, a bit of info from audiworld... Maybe ALMS TT's have diff. axles, because they sat a little lower right from the factory? Swapping one of those in might fix my problem. Either that, or I'll consider getting it custom built with a shorter length. I used to have driveshafts built by a shop back home for my Jeep when I smashed them, wasn't too expensive.
