Default HID light question!

After my research i think i worked out that our cars come stock with HID lights (or at least 2003 and up).

My question is, if i want a brighter light, can i just purchase one and stick it in there, or will they only work with a certain brightness?

Thank you!

Stock is a 5000K bulb I believe, as white (aka, bright) as you'll get as far as I know. Higher range bulbs change the color of the light, going thru purples and blues, but they aren't actually as bright.

yes if you wanted a different color you would have to get new bulbs 8000k is the popular one. If I remeber right the K rating 8000K the is the temp range that makes the color not the brightness. just keep that in mind.

ive got 8k and they are blue... 12k are purple i believe.. however, the lower the K the more light that is emitted... so 3k's are yellow but really bright

the stock Hids are 35w, but you can get either 50W or 55w aftermarket ballasts and lights and they will put out some serious light. just getting bluer bulbs will only make your light output worse.

I got 10000k and they are very blue... not quite bright enough for my taste, but they will do for now. If you run them with the fog lights on they are pretty bright.

I have a 2003 180 fwd TT. On sylvania's website for 2003 TT's they have the options as HID or replaceable halogen capsules. How do I know which I have? Do we need to get the ballasts as well as the bulbs? Or can we just get bulbs and everything work fine? Also what companies make good HID kits for our cars? Sorry for the long post but I'm a noob when it comes to lighting

From what i have read in this thread we have 5000k HID bulbs, you can just get the different color bulbs, but if you want to increase the wattage you would need to get the ballasts as well.

Correct me if I am wrong!
