How often do you..
How often do you change your oil ? Ive looked at some previous posts on here and found a lot of different answers so i thought a poll would be simple and easier to get a lot of info.
I bout my 02 225hp TT at 21.5k miles and have about 23.8k miles now, so i havew always followed the 3k mile rule with my other cars and i talked to a mechanic friend who said the 1.8t engine needs a change EVERY 3k miles, but i see some people changing from 3k - 10k.
I dont mind the 3k mile changes but I just want to get a general opinion. I dont put many miles on it, mainly just around town or whatever.
thanks guys

syn oil doest break down like reg oil. 5-7k is fine. I usually wait till 6k and then do it when i can. But i do also use a large passat filter that lets me use almost another qt of oil. Doing it any sooner than 5k is wasting money
I do mine at 4K.
Keep in mind, while the oil doesn't break down, that doesn't mean that it isn't picking up contaminants.
Perfectly stable oil is perfectly stable oil, but perfectly stable oil with sand in it is perfectly stable oil with sand in it. Theres a bigger picture to look at.
If you wanna be lazy and do an oil change at 7K+, fine, but you should still change your filter sooner.

Tell me this.. im sure this might be an easy No, but.. is there any way to tell what has been put in the car already? It would be my first oil change and i dont know what they used before. I dont want to wait 7k miles when its just some basic regular oil.
My dad works on cars so from what hes told me
the 3k change recommended by most places that change oil
only say that in order to get customers to come back sooner
therefore increasing sales
if you read your manual I believe it actually says 10k miles
I usually do it around the 8k so i dont put it off
And you should Only be using synthetic Oil in these cars because otherwise it will clog up your engine.
but if you've been on regular oil for a while then dont switch because it will warp your gaskets and you'll have to get them replaced

Just change it sooner than later. Its best to just swap it out now and save yourself the headache. The problems he listed above are a bit over done and will take 10's of thousands of miles to happen.
I do mine about every 8K miles. I send it off to Blackstone Labs after every change just to make sure everything is working as it should.
