I lost my acceleration...
I have an 02' 225 quattro w/ 67kand a couple of months ago i noticed that when i was on the freeway in 6th gear i would floor it and the rpms would jump but there would be no acceleration. As time whent on it started happening in 5th, 4th and now 3rd gear, i cant floor it anymore because nothing happens besides the RMPs going up. What do you guys think it is? clutch, trani, turbo?
Mind if I ask...what is the general lifespan on the stock clutch? Timbo said "beyond time to replace it" -- does that mean that his 67k miles is beyond time, or his clutch simply going to crap means it's beyond time?

Most definitely the CLUTCH! Same thing happened to my car just after I picked it up from the dealership that I bought it from. I promptly returned the vehicle and they put in a new clutch for me or I told them they could shove that thing up their... you know what.
A new clutch will run you about $2500.00 installed by the dealership perhaps a bit more if the flywheel needs to be replaced.
Don't drive it like that because you are not only hurting the clutch but also putting a lot of wear onyour transmission and you don't even want to know how much one of those things is for the TT.
I never needed a new clutch in any vehicle I have driven, but I guess the previous owner must have been very hard on the clutch. I have seen TT's with 153,000 miles and still on the original
clutch and then some kill the clutch in less than 20000 miles. Heck, I have some guys in the Honda forum burn up a clutch in a brand new Si in less than 5000 miles. It's all on how you drive the car and take care of it.

Best way to determine if your clutch is going bad is putting it in 5th gear around 25mph and then flooring it. If the rpms go up but your car isn't moving any faster than you have a bad clutch.
Don't wait until it is slipping in all the gears before getting it repaired. Bad for the transmission and especially bad for your wallet.

I would shoot whoever quoted you that price in the face.
