Went through about 3 tanks of premium on my road trip today , and then on my last fill-up, i got into the car, started it up and realized that i forgot to use premium....is this going to hurt my engine, or just make it run a little rough for this tank?

 

You should be okay. Just don't hammer the throttle. You could always get a couple bottles of octane booster to take the edge off. If you are chipped, move it back to stock mode. You may get a little pinging under heavy throttle load.

The whole idea of higher octane fuel is not to be more flammable, but to actually be HARDER to ignite, as I'm sure you guys know. That way, the car can control the explosions in the cylinders more accurately, allowing it to use advanced timing without worry of knocking.

Baby the car until that tank is gone and it's fine, but otherwise you're going to be setting off your knock sensor which will retard the timing of the car for your engine's safety. On most vehicles, this effect does not last, but you never know -- and I'm new to TTs.
