Default I'm new, thought I'd say hello...

Hello folks,

I've been lurking about for a few weeks, reading away and figured it was time I sign up andintroduce myself. I recently purchased a white 2002 225 coupe which I'm super excited to get. I don't have the car yet as I live in Canada and purchased it from Utah, but hopefully will have it in the next couple weeks here...

I'm sure I'll have many questions as I go along (some stupid, some not as much) but I'm looking forward to joining the community! This will be my first non-GM vehicle; pretty exciting stuff for me, I must say.

And why don't I start with question #1 (of many down the road I'm sure). Can anyone provide a link to the DIY headlight mod? For those that have done it, did you just remove the side amber marker? Can this still be done if the car has the xenon headlights? I did do a search but didn't turn up much. I'll try not to ask too much that hasn't already been covered elsewhere as I know that can be annoying to all of you that have read it a thousand times over, even though this is all new to me!

Thanks!

Steve

Welcome to the group, where at in Canada do you live? As for the headlight mod, what you have to do is

1. Take the headlight assembly out
2. Heat up the headlight (heat gun/ I used the oven for my mazda)(loosens up the glue)
3. Seperate the clear lense with the black back housing
4. Take out the amber marker/ Prob gona want to fill in the old holes.
5. (Optional) Paint the inside of the black back housing piece
6. Get some new silicone and heat up the two parts again
7. Slap the two pieces back together
8. Put it back into your car.

Note- Make sure that you get all your fingerprints out of the inside and any dirt or anything or else it will drive you crazy for years, trust me.

If I have left anything out someone please help me out.

achTTung and 225tt,

Yes, that is the mod I was looking for. I want to take out the orange and paint the housing so thanks for the directions 225tt... I don't have a heat gun though so I guess I'll have to go and get one.

Couple more related questions:
[ul][*]What type of silicon do you use when putting them back together?[*]What did you use to fill the old holes where the reflector used to be? I assume body filler but hey, may as well ask all my dumb questions in advance.[*]Is this safe with xenon headlights? I've never had them before...[/ul]
Thanks guys.

Edit:
Sorry, forgot to say, I live in Edmonton. I'll probably have the only white TT in Edmonton if not damn near in Canada, I think everyone I've ever seen has been silver or black.

Honestly I did not have to use any silicone on my Mazda because there was enought left over after I re-heated it that it sealed back up, but I would think just about any waterproof/high temp silicone would do ok.

As for body filler it should work just make sure that everything is flush and blended into the surrounding area when you go to paint it.

Again I have not done the mod to my Audibut I know that others have with their headlights, may I add make sure you take out whatever bulbs you can before you go and heat it up. Dont keep the heat gun in one spot for more than once and a extra set of hands is going to help. Its really not that difficult its just time consuming. Take your time, that is what was told to me no sense in rushing and then having to buy a new headlight housing. ($$$)
