Default Info from HEETâ„¢ on product methanol content.

Hey,

I know Methanol can be a pain in the butt to get ahold of in the raw form I'm sure... and not everyone can just keep reordering Boost Juiceâ„¢ from snowperformance everytime their tank runs dry.

Here's some info for those people considering Water/Methanol Injection systems for their vehicle.
First... A quote from Snowperformance on alternative solutions for w/m injection:
ORIGINAL: Snowperformance FAQ
SP sells 50/50% methanol/waterMethanol as Boost Juiceâ„¢ (see products). Methanol can generally be purchased where racing fuels are sold. Also, most gas line dryers like "Heet" are simply Methanol. Suppliers of industrial chemicals can also supply Methanol usually at a higher price than fuel suppliers.

If all else fails, most windshield washer fluids are up to 40% Methanol and 58% water. Although most contain some glycol and detergent(less than 1%), most windshield washer fluids are up to 40% methanol. Try to find one that indicates "contains methanol" and is rated to -20ºf
Now I decided to go ahead and email HEETâ„¢ and find out the exact methanol content of their products to be sure how to mix it.

Below are my email and their response:
ORIGINAL: Email traffic between Me and HEETâ„¢

Me: I just have a quick question about HEET ingredients.
I recently installed a water/methanol injection system on my vehicle. The system uses a 50/50 water/methanol solution and injects it directly into the Turbo charge pipe after the intercooler and just prior to the throttle body. Can you tell me the methanol and water content % in HEET gasline antifreeze and also in the HEET windshield anti-ice concentrate product?HEETâ„¢: While ,I can't comment on your specific application HEET gasoline Antifreeze is 99.90% Methanol ~0.10 water.
To get 50% by volume methanol water mix use it 1:1 ME:
What about the HEET windshield de-ice concentrate? It's blue... and it says 4 parts of de-ice concentrate to 5 parts water for protection to -25FWhats the methanol content in that one?HEETâ„¢ : Do Not use windshield wash
I can not under any circumstances recommend HEET Windshield De-Icer Concentrate ,There are other additives in it.ME: The company that makes it... actually advises that regular windshield washer fluid is a great alternative to the fluid THEY produce since almost all windshield washer fluids contain at least 40% methanol. Can you at least tell me the methanol content?HEETâ„¢ : My Point is that there are surfactants/ which foam /and anti corrosion additive in ours: Do Not Use to run in an injection sustem
Methanol content for Windshield de-ice Concentrate is 95%v/v
In my opinion... (this is ONLY my opinion) All windshield washer fluids contain surfactants that foam up (detergents). I would assume since the snowperformance FAQ does mention detergents in the contents of windshield washer fluids... and still recommends it as an alternative, then I would assume the detergents in HEETâ„¢ De-ice WW fluid is fine as well. I posted this more or less so people know the facts about it straight from the manufacturers before they invest in the system. Overall, HEETâ„¢ in the yellow bottle, and HEETâ„¢ in the blue WW fluid bottle... would both work great in a Water / methanol injection system. Both can be purchased at almost any Auto Parts Store... and even WalMart. So if you're considering this mod... but you're worried about availability of methanol... I hope this'll help you out.- Chris

I tell you what man, this kit, with all the required accessories to make it work best with our cars... can be a big investment. For a lot of people; a commitment like that can be real intimidating if you're unsure of all the details. Just from the conversations I had here @ the forum prior to taking the plunge, there is still a lot of speculation and hearsay about these systems and people are reluctant to buy into things that still have a foreshadowing of unkown.

If nothing else, this install and research could help people that were on the fence decide one way or the other about it all. Plus now folks that don't frequent the other forums actually have a tangible example of this system within their reach to check out and see for themselves that it does work with the TT. I mean hell, I heard all about all these folks everywhere else that were running w/m, but nobody on this forum was. Nobody that I know anyhow. Now if someone wants to know something... they have someone they can ask, for unbiased answers; someone not employed by snowperformance or devil's own that has a money-making agenda.

I have heard this before also, just water and heet are the better than washer fluid.

Well actually, since water has a mineral content... and oxidants; I would imagine the anti-corrosion subcomponents of the WW fluid would help tremendously on the inside of an engine and an Intake Manifold.

The blue regular ww fluid is fine, the red and other kinds that de-ice are not. The only problem with ww fluid is that the dye can clog the nozzle(s) over time and will need to be clean a some point. The other downside is that ss fluid is onely 20-30% meth, so a bottle of heet would help that also.

well i have a question... please bear with me ive been drinking a little, im in the military... now anyways i found this small business around here that sells this "abbots 4x4 energy saver" which, to me, is really just a water meth injection system... its 150 bucks installed with a good size tank... it says it "reduces ingine wear, longer valve life, cooler running in hot weather and at high altitudes" as well as a few other things but its just like a water meth inj. system... but they use a 50% water and a 50% fuel injector cleaner... isnt that mostly methanol... if not 100% meth therefore giving it that 50/50 mix...

so couldnt water and fuel injector cleaner be used as yall are saying... and wouldnt this work for me as well instead of paying 500 for the same system
