Default Installed a chrome intake but engine heats up... ne one know y?

I bought this chrome intake on ebay but found out that it was some cheap filter, which i expected, but still had hopes.. I bought it because i live in the houston area where it floods alot so I dont want a cold air and brands like carbonio are too expensive...Anyways I bought a AEM dry-flow filter to replace the chrome intake. For some reason my engine keeps lagging and the coolant temperature goes to H, especially when i have my engine on at rest or slow moving (such as traffic)... alot of people told me the intake was taking in hot air so i should get a heat shield for my intake.... does anyone know where I can get one or if it is even necessary? (btw I also just replaced the coolant hoses and checked if there were any leaks anywhere in the coolant) .... anyone? cincy?

no intake. no matter how hot of air it takes it, will increase the coolent temp. You either are getting low on coolent, need a new temp sensor (if you have a black one, you should get a new green one), or have a fan problem. The first two are the more likely causes.

when you say your engine is "lagging" you mean its jerking, bucking and not making power?

when i mean lagging it isnt making enough power... when the indicator is in the middle you can feel a push but when its near the H it takes a long time to accelerate

for starters, i hope you didnt install an intake and hoped for big noticable gains. But it seems like you have a cooling issue you need to resolve. The power is most likely "lost" because the engine is operating at a higher temp than it should be. So i would start with the things listed above. I can tell you that my car's temp would creep to the next line past virticle when my coolent was low, and not low enough to get a low level indicator.

Does the intake connect to the turbo or just the intake hose?

yea my car starts to overheat while im idle in traffic ppl tell me it might be the thermostat and aside from that my ac wasnt blowing cold air so i thought it was the freon and when we tested it..it had plenty of it but to much pressure and they said its keeping the compressor from starting so i have the overheating issue and the ac thingy to deal with(hoping i dont need a new compressor) and i live in dallas so yea i be burnin up
